FAQs for Team Organisers
There are a few questions that people always ask – here are some answers:
What is the London Legal Walk?
The London Legal Walk is an annual fundraising event, bringing the legal community together in support of free legal advice services.
We have our traditional two routes, Parks and River (both 10K), plus two shorter routes for those who want to participate but require a shorter route as an adjustment. Find our more on our routes page.
There’s also the option to take part remotely.
How long is the London Legal Walk?
The Parks and River Route are both 10km long which would take most people around 2-3 hours to walk. Running enthusiasts are welcome to run the route though please be mindful of crossings as roads will not be closed.
We also have two shorter routes for those who want to participate but require a shorter route as an adjustment. The Strand Route is 3.5km and The Lincoln’s Inn Field route is 1.32km. Find our more on our routes page.
Is there an entry fee?
No. We do not charge an entry fee for teams* or walkers. However this is a fundraising event so please do enter with the intention of raising some money. Hosting an event has considerable costs from road closure fees, security, first aid, licencing and more. The minimum fundraising target to cover the cost of entry is £20 per person, though we recommend a target of £50 per person to ensure funds are raised for the cause.
If you need help or advice with how to get sponsorship or alternative ways to boost your team’s total we’d be happy to help.
* the one exception to this being where a team has taken part previously and raised no funds at all, then we will ask for a minimum donation per walker.
What is the route?
There are four routes available for this year:
Strand Route – provided by the Disability Justice Project.
Please note that the Parks Route is also accessible, but there is a deep patch of gravel at Horse Guards that it is best to go around.
How early/late can we start?
Registration will run from 3pm – 7pm at desks at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields end of Carey Street. We recommend arriving between 3-5pm if possible to beat the crowds.
Can non lawyers walk for our team?
Absolutely! Anyone can take part in the Walk – lawyers, clients, support staff, friends and family, housemates, children and pets are all welcome. It is your choice who is in your team.
Can we walk with a dog?
Well socialised dogs are welcome on the walk. Some of our four legged walkers get better sponsorship than their humans! Dog bowls of water will be available at the end for their free drink.
Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times on both the route and at the street party.
Is running the Walk allowed?
Yes. Joggers and runners are welcome. Runners may wish to start a bit earlier than the bulk of walkers. It’s quite hard to run through 10,000 walking lawyers. Please note we do not close off roads or road crossings so we cannot time runners and please be very careful when running!
Are there toilets along the route?
There are a number of public toilets along the routes that will be marked on the map. If you can’t find one ask a route marshal where the nearest one is. The Last Judgment, The Law Society and the Old Bank of England pub both have large toilets at the start and end. The Law Society has an accessible toilet.
You can visit the Great British Public Toilet Map to find local and accessible toilets close to your current location while walking your chosen route.
Can we order London Legal Walk T-shirts?
We are delighted that our t-shirt sponsor, Doculand, will be providing t-shirts for the 7th year.
You can order t-shirts online now! Please follow our LLW t-shirts page
The early-bird deadline has now passed. The final deadline for ordering t-shirts is Friday 26th May.
What is Enthuse and how to do I use my fundraising page?
Enthuse is LLST’s fundraising platform. When you register you will be set up with a fundraising page in the usual way.
The team will then send you two Enthuse links.
- An editable link to only be used by you (the team organiser)
- A sharable link where you can request donations from your colleagues and friends.
Where do we register on the day?
Team organisers will need to sign in their team at the registration desks on Carey Street. We are requesting that only the team organiser queue up this year to reduce congestion at the desks.
When does the street party end?
The street party closes at 10pm. Many pubs and bars locally will still be open if you wish to continue the evening off site, but be aware the street cleaning team will arrive shortly after 10pm with vehicles.
Where do we get maps and tokens?
Your team organiser will collect these for the full team when signing in at the registration desk. You can also follow the routes online here.
What can our drinks tokens be used for?
You can use your drink token to get a small glass of house wine, beer, or a soft drink from The Last Judgment, The Old Bank of England and Law Society bars.
You can also donate your drinks voucher back and LLST will receive £1 for every voucher from our fantastic sponsors.
Will there be water available at the Walk?
There is a water station on the corner of Carey Street and Bell Yard where The Law Society are providing 2,500 cartons of water and Get More Vits are providing 3,000 bottles of vitamin water. There are also public drinking fountains in the Royal Parks.
We strongly recommend that participants also bring water on the day as the water from our sponsors will be first come first served.
What food is available at the street party?
We’re delighted to welcome back our seasoned London Legal Walk food vendors: Pasta e Basta, Jamon Jamon, Well Kneaded, Piccadilly Whip and vegan burger van, Feed the Village.
There is also two new food vendors for this, Tripoli Express (Lebanese) and Master’s Home Touch (Caribbean).
You can view all the food providers and what they do on our food vendors page
Is there a cloakroom?
A limited cloakroom will be available inside the Law Society between 3-9pm. As space is tight, we request that you only bring a small bag that you can carry with you. Heavy / important items like laptops are to remain in your office.
What should I do with offline donations?
We are trying to be cash free as much as possible this year, so would really appreciate if you could bank transfer offline funds. If you do have cash that can’t be transferred, there will be a cash / cheque desk set up to the registration desks on the day. Please ensure that any cash / cheques are deposited in envelopes complete with your name, contact details and organisation.
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Events team.
