FAQs for Team Organisers
There are a few questions that people always ask – here are some answers:
What is the London Legal Walk?
The London Legal Walk is an annual fundraising event, bringing the legal community together in support of free legal advice agencies. The funds from the Walk help to fund over 100 of these charities in London & the South East.
We have our traditional two routes, Parks and River (both 10K), plus two shorter routes for those who want to participate but require a shorter route as an adjustment. Find our more on our routes page.
How long is the London Legal Walk?
The Parks and River Route are both 10km which would take most people around 2-3 hours to walk. Running enthusiasts are welcome to run the route, though please be mindful of crossings as roads will not be closed.
We also have two shorter routes for those who want to participate but require a shorter route as an adjustment. The Strand Route is 3.5km and The Lincoln’s Inn Field route is 1.32km. Find our more on our routes page.
Is there an entry fee?
No. We do not charge an entry fee for teams* or walkers. However this is a fundraising event, so please do enter with the intention of raising funds.
Hosting an event has considerable costs from road closure fees, security, first aid, licencing and more.
The minimum fundraising target to cover the cost of entry is £10 per person, though we recommend a target of £50 per person to ensure funds are being raised for the cause.
This year, we are celebrating 20 years of the London Legal Walk and are asking if walkers are able to kickstart their fundraising with their own £20 donation.
If you need help or advice with how to get sponsorship or alternative ways to boost your team’s total we’d be happy to help at any time by emailing [email protected].
* the one exception to this is where a team has taken part previously and raised no funds at all, then we will ask for a minimum donation per walker.
Do I get a free drink token for the street party?
As a thank you from us, team’s that raise over £10 per walker by the day of the London Legal Walk will receive a complimentary drinks voucher that can be used for a beer, wine or soft drink at the Law Society or street party bars.
Drinks will also be available to purchase.
How can I support the 20 year anniversary?
As this year’s London Legal Walk is a very special anniversary, we encourage everybody to get involved with the celebrations!
Can you do a 20x challenge one month? eg. 20 pull ups a day, 20 minutes sponsored silence a day?
Will you donate £20 towards your fundraising page to kick-start your donations?
We would love to see your celebrations on social media by using the #LegalWalk
Please note that the Parks Route is also accessible, but there is a deep patch of gravel at Horse Guards that it is best to go around.
How early/late can we start?
Registration will run from 3pm – 7pm at desks at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields end of Carey Street (furthest end from Chancery Lane). We recommend arriving between 3-5pm if possible to beat the crowds.
Where do we register on the day?
Team organisers will need to sign in their team at the registration desks on Carey Street. The location of the desks is new for 2024, they will be at the back of the Royal Courts of Justice, at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields end of the Street and not Chancery Lane.
We are requesting that only the team organiser comes to the desk to reduce the congestion.
Can we walk with a dog?
Well socialised dogs are welcome on the walk. Some of our four legged walkers get better sponsorship than their humans! Dog bowls of water will be available at the end for their free drink.
Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times on both the route and at the street party.
Please be mindful of the temperature – it can get very hot in June (above 25 degrees) which can be too hot for our furry friends.
Can non lawyers walk for our team?
Absolutely! Anyone can take part in the Walk – lawyers, clients, support staff, friends and family, housemates, children and pets are all welcome. It is your choice who is in your team.
Is running the Walk allowed?
Yes. Joggers and runners are welcome. Runners may wish to start a bit earlier than the bulk of walkers. It’s quite hard to run through 15,000 walkers! Please note we do not close off roads or road crossings, so we cannot time runners and please be very careful when running.
Are there toilets along the route?
There are a number of public toilets along the routes that will be marked on the map. If you can’t find one ask a route marshal where the nearest one is. The Last Judgment pub has large toilets at the street party, and portaloos are further down Carey Street. The Law Society also has an accessible toilet on Chancery Lane.
A limited cloakroom will be available inside the Law Society between 3-9pm. As space is tight, we request that you only bring a small bag that you can carry with you. Heavy / important items like laptops are to remain in your office.
Can we order London Legal Walk T-shirts?
Doculand will be our T-shirt provider for the 8th year. T-shirt order information will be available soon!
What is Enthuse and how to do I use my fundraising page?
Enthuse is LLST’s fundraising platform. When you register you will be set up with a fundraising page.
The team will then send you two Enthuse links.
An editable link to only be used by you (the team organiser) so you can edit your page in any way you like.
A sharable link where you can request donations from your networks.
When does the street party end?
The street party closes at 10pm. Many pubs and bars locally will still be open if you wish to continue the evening off site, but be aware the street cleaning team will arrive shortly after 10pm with vehicles.
Where do we get maps and tokens?
Your team organiser will collect these for the full team when signing in at the registration desk.
Please note, if your team has raised less than £10 per walker by the 18th June, then you will not be given drinks tokens. Drinks will still be available to purchase from the Law Society and street party bars.
Will there be water available at the Walk?
A water bowser will be on Carey Street where you can fill up your own water bottles.
The Law Society will also provide water cartons on a first-come first-served basis on Carey Street.
What food is available at the street party?
There will be a wide variety of food vendors (catering for all dietary needs) at the street party until 10pm!
Please come back soon to find details on which food vendors will be there.
What should I do with offline donations?
We are trying to be cash free as much as possible, so we would really appreciate if you could bank transfer offline funds. We will happily provide BACS details if you email [email protected].
If you do have cash that can’t be transferred, there will be a cash / cheque desk set up to the registration desks on the day. Please ensure that any cash / cheques are deposited in envelopes complete with your name, contact details and organisation so we can trace which organisation to add the funds to.
If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Events team.
