Melanie Pope

Why did you get involved in LLST?

I loved studying law at university, and having worked in the advice sector, I have seen the incredible positive impact that accessible advice can have on a person at some of the trickiest moments in their lives. LLST’s values and commitment to access to justice for all inspired me to get involved and make sure all Londoner’s have the support they need to navigate the legal system.

What is your favourite part of the role?

I’m very new, so all of it! I’m particularly looking forward to getting involved with our fundraising events (I am enthusiastic about baking/quizzing/running, although I have limited talent on all fronts) and meeting the brilliant people working at the organisations we fund to hear about the work they do.

What do you hope to see in the future for LLST/ the agencies we support?

I hope to see the Government recognise the importance of funding for legal aid and advice more widely. As we recover from the pandemic, and the impact it has had on so many people’s lives and livelihoods, it’s more important than ever the organisations we support are there – so that everyone has someone to turn to.

When you are not working or volunteering what can you be found doing?

I spend most of my free time swimming or dancing, reading, spending time with my friends and trying to explain British politics to my South African partner.
