Marc Sosnow

External Position

Corporate Partner, Fladgate LLP.

When did you first get involved with LLST?

Since its inception.

What is your favourite part of the role?

Giving the law centres a helping hand so that they in turn can give a helping hand to those in need.

What is the worst part of the role?

Having to balance the number of applications with the limited funds available for distribution which means that unfortunately some centres which provide the only free access to justice in that community are forced to shut down.

Have there been any memorable moments?

Advising at a legal advice centre in London for a number of years and sometimes being able to provide the answers needed to lift a weight from clients’ shoulders. Providing financial commitments for the next 12 months which enables other public organisations to commit to further funds themselves  – it’s rather like a snowball effect.

What do you hope to see in the future for LLST/ the agencies we support?

The future for LLST is most definitely bright since it has already raised significant funds over the last few years which has enabled it to provide much-needed funding for centres in distress and for centres looking to expand. We have witnessed a welcome sea change within the legal profession towards corporate social responsibility which continues to have a direct financial benefit to legal advice centres across the region. I would like to see the tremendous work of the LLST replicated across the UK so that no community will have to struggle simply to keep the doors of its local legal advice centres open.

When you are not working or volunteering what can you be found doing?

As a member of the Magic Circle of Great Britain I regularly perform magic at charity events.

Favourite Book or Film?

My favourite book at the moment is “How to run a Marathon”. Essential reading for a novice like me!
