Billing Projects
Billing Project
The Billing Project is an initiative funded by the Legal Education Foundation (LEF) and the London Legal Support Trust (LLST), to aid and support the free legal advice sector with their billing needs. Improved billing helps enable the advice agencies to secure cashflow and increase income.
The first pilot involved funding the position of one Billing Coordinator in an advice centre. Within a year, the role had become self-sustaining.
The second project was expanded to include three London advice agencies:

The third billing project was supported by LEF and the City Bridge Foundation, and involved six advice agencies:

The Fourth Billing Project
The fourth iteration of the Billing Project began in 2024 and involves three London-based advice agencies. Two of the agencies have some national reach, and together they cover a wide range of social welfare law areas.
A Billing Coordinator was appointed in the first half of 2025 to work across all three organisations. The role is supported by a Coordinator from a previous phase of the project, ensuring continuity and drawing on past experience.
