FAQs for Team Organisers

The London Legal Walk is an annual fundraising event, bringing the legal community together in support of free legal advice services.  The walk is 10k in length and all three routes start on Carey Street.

 

All routes are 10km long which would take most people around 2-3 hours to walk. Running enthusiasts are welcome to run the route though please be mindful of crossings as roads will not be closed and the sun will set at 18:02 on the 18th October.

No. We do not charge an entry fee for teams* or walkers. However this is a fundraising event so please do enter with the intention of raising some money. If you need help or advice with how to get sponsorship or alternative ways to boost your team’s total we’d be happy to help. 

* the one exception to this being where a team has taken part previously and raised no funds at all, then we will ask for a minimum donation per walker.

Accessible Route Map – Thanks to the Disability Justice Project, there is a recommended fully accessible route which can be viewed here.

Please note that the Parks Route is also accessible, but there is a deep patch of gravel at Horse Guards that it is best to go around.

Registration will run from 2pm – 7pm at desks at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields end of Carey Street. We recommend arriving between 2-5pm if possible to beat the crowds and the sunset!

Absolutely! Anyone can take part in the walk or 10xChallenge – lawyers, clients, support staff, friends and family, housemates, children and pets are all welcome. It is your choice who is in your team.

Well socialised dogs are welcome on the walk. Some of our four legged walkers get better sponsorship than their humans! The Knights Templar puts out bowls of water for their free drink at the end.

Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times on both the route and at the street party.

Yes. Joggers and runners are welcome. Runners may wish to start a bit earlier than the bulk of walkers. It’s quite hard to run through 15,000 walking lawyers. Please note we do not close off roads or road crossings so we cannot time runners and please be very careful when running!

There are a number of public toilets along the routes that will be marked on the map. If you can’t find one ask a route marshal where the nearest one is. The Law Society and the Knights Templar both have large toilets at the start and end.

The deadline to order London Legal Walk t-shirts from our official t-shirt providers, Doculand, has now passed.

Yes – we allow teams to designate up to 50% of the funds they raise to a specific agency (or agencies) if they have a significant partnership with the agency. A significant partnership would, for instance, be on-going pro bono, financial or management support. The agency must be a legal advice agency, or legal support agency (such as a network or PSU) that provides services in London or, for national/international agencies that are based in London (or in your region of your team comes from outside the LLST region).

Please contact us if you wish to designate funds.

Funds raised by legal advice agencies’ own teams will be donated to the agency that raises the funds. We do not deduct any fees or costs from that money.

You may have read that sadly, Virgin Money Giving is closing. Therefore, your fundraising page will not be open for 3 months after the Walk as it has been in previous years. Please make sure that you have received all donations to your page by 23 November this year as VMG will be closed after this date. Any further donations after this date can be sent to LLST by bank transfer or cheque.

Team organisers will need to sign in their team at the registration desks on Carey Street. We are requesting that only the team organiser queue up this year to reduce congestion at the desks. View the street party map here.

The street party closes at 10pm. Many pubs and bars locally will still be open if you wish to continue the evening off site, but be aware the street cleaning team will arrive shortly after 10pm with vehicles.

Your team organiser will collect these for the full team when signing in at the registration desk. You can also follow the routes online here.

You can use your drink token to get a small glass of house wine, beer, or a soft drink from the Knights Templar and Law Society bars.

Tokens can also be exchanged for an official London Legal Walk goody bag, but you will need to be quick as only 2,000 are available.

You can also donate your drinks voucher back and LLST will receive £1 for every voucher from our fantastic sponsors The Law Society, LexisNexis and Keystone Law.

We have made a number of changes to the London Legal Walk, including extending the registration time and creating a new route to reduce the likelihood of Covid-19 transmission. We highly recommend that every attendee of the London Legal Walk takes a Covid-19 lateral flow on the Sunday evening or Monday morning (within 24 hours of your Legal Walk). If someone starts to feel unwell while at the event, they are advised to go home immediately, ideally avoiding public transport. Face coverings should be worn during their journey, over both the mouth and nose. Face coverings are also required in the Law Society, and advised in areas of ‘gathering’ such as when queuing at registration desks or at the bar. You can find our full Covid-19 Guidelines here.

Bottles of water have kindly been provided by our sponsors The Law Society of England & Wales and Keystone Law. There will be multiple water collection points on Carey Street, including one on the corner of Bell Yard (back of the Law Society)

If you are walking the Parks Route there are water refill points in the Park including:

• Bandstand toilets
• Lutyens drinking fountain in the Cockpit
• Lutyens drinking fountain at the Lido

We’re delighted to welcome back our seasoned London Legal Walk food vendors: Pasta e Basta, Jamon Jamon, Well Kneaded and Piccadilly Whip.  A warm welcome to vegan burger van, Feed the Village, who is joining us for the first time this year.

A limited cloakroom will be available inside the Law Society between 2-9pm. As space is tight, we request that you only bring a small bag that you can carry with you. Heavy / important items like laptops are to remain in your office.

We are trying to be cash free as much as possible this year, so would really appreciate if you could bank transfer offline funds. If you do have cash that can’t be transferred, there will be a cash / cheque desk set up to the registration desks on the day. Please ensure that any cash / cheques are deposited in envelopes complete with your name, contact details and organisation.
